Taste of the West Gold award

We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded a gold after a secret visit by a taste of the west assessor. These are awarded for locally sourcing and promoting Quality produce from your local area. It is our first year of participating in the scheme so we are naturally delighted. We will strive to continue to give our guests the very best that the glorious Westcountry can offer. For those that have not seen it here is the Text from a recent article on the Exe valley eggs website

Now it’s the Five Star Egg Award

Torquay’s Elmdene Hotel is garlanded with awards and recommendations. Its bed and breakfast experience is 5 Star rated by Visit Britain and it has won a silver award in Visit Devon’s Best Guest House awards. On TripAdvisor it gets five star reviews from customers for every category from sleep quality to value and earlier this year it was named as one the best in the UK for customer service in the website’s Travellers’ Choice Hotels With Exceptional Service awards. Individual reviews range from “fabulous” to “faultless”.

But even so owners Andy and Carol Gibbs have just discovered a new category for recommendation… Best Eggs at Breakfast. One of their delighted guests was so impressed by the taste and freshness of his breakfast egg that he just had to find out where he could find a regular supply near his home. So having found Exe Valley Eggs on the hotel’s list of carefully selected local food producers he contacted us. Barry from Newton Abbott said: “Your eggs are amazing. The one I had for breakfast at the Elmdene tasted how eggs used to taste.”

Back at the Elmdene Andy said: “We spent a long time on ensuring that all the local products we buy in are the finest quality and freshness. Exe Valley Eggs were recommended to us and we decided to try them. The sample eggs we had were so good we actually wondered whether a regular supply could possibly maintain that level of quality. Well it does.
“This is far from being the first guest to comment on the eggs they are served. People usually say ‘what is the secret of how you cook your eggs to get them tasting so good’. And we always tell them that the secret is to start with a fantastic egg.”

Another mention for Elmdene

We were delighted to feature in an article on the Exe Valley eggs website. A customer of ours contacted them after staying ar Elmdene and sampling their eggs on our breakfast menu. The full story is here

Another award for Elmdene

We are delighted to add that we have been highly commended by south west england tourism. Below is the text of an e-mail we have recieved

Dear Carol & Andy,

I have pleasure in telling you that your entry for The Elmdene has been selected as one of the ‘Highly Commended’ entries in the B&B, Guest Accommodation & Inns category of this year’s South West Tourism Excellence Awards.

Within each category, the panel was restricted to a maximum of four ‘winners’ to receive Gold, Silver or Bronze Awards and for submission to the national VisitEngland Awards, and I’m sorry to tell you that your entry was not amongst these winners. However, I can tell you that the judges were hugely impressed by your business and decided to award you ‘Highly Commended’ status. This is only awarded in those categories where the judges had the toughest of decisions, and reflects the reality that the scoring was immensely close.

Please accept my congratulations!

Each year the judging gets harder as the region’s best vie to be the ‘best in class’. This year was no exception, with a record of nearly 350 entries to consider, and our team of 35 judges undertaking a record 213 visits (up from 164 last year). Our final panel meeting considered all judges’ recommendations, alongside websites, review sites and other evidence. It really has developed into quite an operation, but so it needs to in judging the region’s best!

To have achieved Highly Commended status is a huge achievement, especially in England’s top region for tourism.
